4:47 pm - 02.20.04 My Generation Mix I love burning CD mixes, yet it's differant than making a tape mix. For one, you have 10min less than your average 90min tape. Also it's much more difficult to add special effects, unless you have a microphone and exspensive sound editting software. So creativity is limited somewhat. That's where ingenuity comes in, you can join 2 tracks together, to make one, so you can surprise the listener. When I started making mix tapes, I had no idea what the hell I was doing, and so made many mistakes, timing mistakes, like a song gets cut off, cause the tape runs out. Also you can't rerecord over a tape more than twice, otherwise you'll still hear the first recording in the background. I learned by trying to record chorale music, over some 80's mix. Have way through Ave Maria, you could hear Paula Abdule singing with the cartoon cat "Opposites Attract" ave maaaarrrriiiiah....avvvveeee....two steps forward two steps back...opposites attract... You get the idea. Anyways, as time went on, I got better. And began the quest for the perfect mix. I have made maybe 3 or 4 perfect mixes. Coffee Shop Mix #1 was perfection, but I lost it some years ago in one of Shannon's old cars. I tried to remake it, but it didn't feel the same. I began compiling all my favorite songs together, the ones you could dance or cry too, the ones you grew up with, whether or not they were popular before you were born. My mom gave me a wide taste in music growing up. I remember on weekend mornings, waking up to the sounds of her cleaning, and either the "Flashdance" or "Footloose" soundtrack would be on the stereo. She also introduced me to Barbara Striesand, Neil Diamond, and Kenny Rogers. I learned to love them all. She would let me watch MTV when it was first on, mainly cause she didn't know it's mind-warping capabilities. I remember Simon Rex, before he did porn. I remember that promo of the guy in spacesuit walking on the moon, with the MTV flag. I remember when they used to play mostly videos! MTV and the Radio opened my eyes to more great music. That's when AM Radio still had more music stations. And country music was still owned by the Statler Bros, Kenny Rogers, Conway Twitty, Linda Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt, Sheena Easton, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Gordon Lightfoot, and even the variety show "HEE-HAW". I miss Minnie Pearl. I started pulling all of this great music together, but I did not yet have the means to put it together into a collection. Until now. Over the years of having a PC with a CD burner, I've made several mixes I call "My Generation". In honor of The Who song by the same title. Their song was about the Mod Generation, and the shakey way Roger Daltrey was singing it, was to mock the mass aphetamine use, which would cause the body to shake. These 6 mixes which follow, were experiments. Now I'm getting ready to make the perfect ode to the music of my past. Here is what I have so far: My Generation 1
My Generation 2
My Generation 3
My Generation 4
My Generation 5
My Generation 6
My Generation 7 * Oops, already had this one :P My brain holds too much stuff at times, so if the artist slot is blank, and you know what it is, please let me know. I know once I remember, it'll be a DOH! moment.
